Laser-Video Scanner Calibration without the use of a frame store

چکیده
Abstract We present a new calibration method for a structured light surface scanner. The new method uses a model-based calibration, accounting for laser stripe and translation stage alignment and the internal and external camera parameters. The inclusion of non-linear radial distortion in the camera model gives an improvement in the calibration accuracy over a linear model. The method has been designed for laser-video scanner systems that use hardware-based measurement of the illuminated line position rather than a frame store. Standard camera-based calibration techniques cannot be used for such systems, however the new method is also applicable to systems that use software-based stripe segmentation.

Fast Range Scanner using an Optic RAM
A range scanner which calculates ranges by triangulation between the incident angles of laser stripes and the positions of their images on a camera sensor was developed for robotic applications. Its originality resides in the use of a solid state image sensor called \Optic RAM" instead of a CCD sensor. This sensor chip presents three desirable characteristics for the position detection of laser...
متن کاملIntegration of a Terrestrial Laser Scanner with Gps/imu Orientation Sensors
Direct orientation of laser systems has been widely used for airborne laser sensors but not with the terrestrial laser systems. The usual way to operate a terrestrial laser is by scanning a scene while the sensor remains static. In order to cover the whole scene, different scans can be combined by matching several common points, finally the orientation of the scene is performed by identifying a...
متن کاملUtilization of a Terrestrial Laser Scanner for the Calibration of Mobile Mapping Systems
This paper proposes a practical calibration solution for estimating the boresight and lever-arm parameters of the sensors mounted on a Mobile Mapping System (MMS). On our MMS devised for conducting the calibration experiment, three network video cameras, one mobile laser scanner, and one Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)/Inertial Navigation System (INS) were mounted. The geometric relat...
متن کاملTowards System Calibration of Panoramic Laser Scanners from a Single Station
Terrestrial laser scanner measurements suffer from systematic errors due to internal misalignments. The magnitude of the resulting errors in the point cloud in many cases exceeds the magnitude of random errors. Hence, the task of calibrating a laser scanner is important for applications with high accuracy demands. This paper primarily addresses the case of panoramic terrestrial laser scanners. ...
متن کاملFully Automated Laser Range Calibration
We present a novel method for fully automated exterior calibration of a 2D scanning laser range sensor that attains accurate pose with respect to a fixed 3D reference frame. This task is crucial for applications that attempt to recover self-consistent 3D environment maps and produce accurately registered or fused sensor data. A key contribution of our approach lies in the design of a class of c...
